Hello George,
Just from your photographs, I would have to conclude the medal was not issued in error to it's recipient like that, if I were you, I would simply remove the South Africa 1901 clasp, if you bought it, in good faith, as a seven clasp medal, you have a choice, either keep it, return it from whence it came, sell it, or, just keep it as a reminder of the importance of knowing exactly what you are potentially buying before you actually part with any monies..
