Basil Victor Macdona served in South Africa during the Boer War from 1899 to 1901, and took part in operations in the Cape Colony, Orange River Colony, and the Transvaal.

He saw further service the Great War on the Western Front from 6 January to April 1915, and then in Egypt from January to February 1916, and was later employed as Chief Instructor, Artillery School.
