I have a QSA to a Lieutenant in the EGMR who served in both the Defence of Ladysmith (severely wounded at Wagon Hill) and the Relief of Mafeking - both these last with the 1st Imperial Light Horse.

My question is - is it possible to determine what Squadron he was with in Ladysmith? I have scoured the nominal and medal rolls but there is nary a mention of this important detail.

Regards

Rory

He might be mentioned by name in Gibson's history of the ILH, and that might give the squadron.

I have a very battered old copy of Gibson's whose main drawback is a lack of an index of names - I've read through the chapter on Wagon Hill but sadly no reference to my man. A bonus was what I found in the newspapers (below) which confirms his being wounded.

It would be nice to know the squadron so as to place him more accurately during the battle.

Regards and thanks Brett

That is, usually, a difficult question to answer, even in WO126/55-65, the particular squadron is not indicated, which is a great shame.
