My latest purchase off a popular on line auction site.
Joseph Isaac Goldsmith
QSA, C.C., O.F.S., S.A.02.
D Coy 2nd Railway Pnr Regt. Mounted Section.
Age 20 on enlistment,
Occupation, Salesman,
Religion, Hebrew.
Address Norwood, South Australia.
The QSA named J.T. Goldsmith, and it is missing the Trans & SA01 clasps.
It appears that he remained in South Africa after discharge as his intended address was Jeppes St., Johannesburg.

I find it odd that the medal rolls have the correct clasp entitlement but the medal is missing two. It doesn't appear to be re-suspendered.

Quite a career change, salesman to mounted soldier.

Cheers,

Jim

I would not be too concerned about your latest buy being re-suspendered. I have seen a number of RPR medals where they do not bear the full entitlement of clasps (indeed, I have two such in my own collection). A likely reason for missing clasps could be that they were forwarded later for attachment by a local jeweller. If your man ever received his additional clasps, he may well have just slipped them on the ribbon. And then over the last Century of so, they got lost!
RPR QSAs represent a lot of hard work - often unrecognised in the written accounts of the campaign. 2RPR appears to have been in the field from 2/1901 (according to the casualty lists) and up at least 1/1901.
Regards
IL.
