A new pairing arrived today. The QSA has clasps SA 1901/ 1902 what would be the reason for this combination?

His entitlement is correct.



He would receive this combination is he joined the Natal Police after 11th June 1900 and served in 01 and 02. Presuming he stayed in Natal, he did not receive the Natal clasp because he enlisted after the entitlement period:

A clasp inscribed "Natal" will be granted to all troops in Natal at any time between October 11th, 1899, and June 11th, 1900 both dates inclusive, who receive no clasp for an action in Natal nor the "Cape Colony" clasp as already specified.

I can't say in nearly 50 years of collecting etc that I have ever seen a QSA with just this bar combination.

I imagine that you will see more of them from now on. There are at least two for sale at the moment; one on Kaplan's next auction and one in the next DNW auction.
