There must have been acts of valor on the Boer side of the conflict.
Is anyone on this forum aware of decorations for this?

There were certainly acts of valour. During the war there were no decorations. Only the Dekoratie voor Trouwe Dienste after the war, mainly for officers.

Given the relative unstructured nature of the Boer army and that it was a community affair really, I don’t think they had a natural place for such decorations. But they were quite democratic and in many cases elected their officers, so it may be that the brave could rise in the ranks if not the eyes of the community.

They would have been aware of such rewards. Their European ancestors which wete only a generation or two back had them, and many black tribes had a form of decoration. I think they were too busy getting on with creating a country then defending it to have gotten that far.

I wonder if there are proposals in the archives somewhere to create such a decoration though?
