Interesting medals, good to see.

Just looking at Crespin's medal roll entry and it appears a replacement QSA was issued (WO100/174p327), no date shown.

Meurig

He appears as CRISPIN on the supplementary QSA roll for year clasps

The medal illustrated is likely to be the original issue. A late issue with the correct clasps would presumably have uniform rivets.

This medal has the years clasps fixed by non-uniform rivets, suggesting later fixing as would occur with an original QSA where the years clasps were issued later.

Pete

EDIT
Request for replacement QSA on reverse of WW1 MIC

It would be surprising if the replacement is not mounted with the rest of the group.

Hello Pete

Interesting, looks like he either sold the medal or had it stolen. Would make an interesting re-unite.

Many years ago I had the RRC/QSA to Nursing Sister Martha Bidmead who led the South Australian Nursing Contingent-her QSA was named upside down

Hello Ian,
Still looking for an example of a QSA, I have found half a dozen other medals thus far, but, not a single QSA, I never entered details of the naming into my catalogue when I acquired them, interestingly, it appears perfectly the norm upon many IGS medals, which I have not bothered to include them in my head count!
Regards Frank

The reverse of the K Star is quite plain. Indeed, I don't think either of the pair were ever worn much or at all. I would, however, like to see similar examples of "upside down" QSA naming if any forum members have them.

IL.

Well, at least a few candidate QSAs have been reported. I suppose it would be best to describe them as "oddities" and leave it at that. The "upside down" naming is unlikely to rate a mention in the MYB. Probably, other examples will be reported in future.
Best regards
IL.
