Produced by Alfred Horatio Darby and Sons in Birmingham with "a" code for 1900.
The standard silver stars were issued in white cardboard boxes with the makers name printed on the lid.
Presentation stars were issued in plush hinged cases with gold lettering on the lid.
Such cases were issued to Sir David Harris, Mayor Henderson (the Mayor before Oliver) and Sir Thomas Smartt.
Mayor Oliver's Gold Star was also presented in a similar case.

Thank you Mike.
Yes, very rare.
I haven't even been able to find an image of the presentation case.
When this one surfaced I choked on the price, but I knew I'd never see another.

I have finally managed to acquire a star in presentation box. Mine is identical in every way to the one shown by Roy apart from the spelling error "Seige" on the lid. Presumably titled by hand like a leather bound book. These seem to turn up in the UK rather than RSA so I guess some must have been presented to UK notables/institutions.

Paul,

A lovely addition to your Kimberley collection. The box looks in great condition too.
