Hello,

I'm currently looking into the service record of my Second Great uncle - Service Numbers: 10/4281 & 7009 Pte James Burrell - Royal Irish Rifles & Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers.

James was allegedly posted to Syria & South Africa with the Royal Innerskilling Fusiliers, however he confessed later in life to being a deserter.

I'm trying to find out which parts of Syria and SA her served in? Would he have been awarded a medal?

Any assistance would be very much appreciated.

Regards,

Lee.

Lee,

I cannot see him listed on the Boer War rolls but it looks like there are service papers for him. These should clarify he situation.

The papers are available free at the National Archives or for a fee from MindMyPast.

Kind regards
David
