Splendid - thank you David - I have spotted my man among those KIA - now to acquire the medal. I've long had a certain fondness for Paget's Horse.

I saw that on one site they were described as an elite unit. Is that the case?

They were of course famous for being "taken at Lindley" but, that aside, their main claim to fame was that they were largely (1st contingent) recruited from the Gentlemen Clubs of London. They were of a superior "cut" as opposed to the rank and file that joined other IY battalions. Among their number were many members of the elite and of the landed gentry/aristocracy. Not uncommon to find "Bart." or"Esq" appended to their monikers.

They must have been elite as I have a couple who went on to join the C.E.F. in W.W. 1...…

I also have the following note.....

Departs for South Africa to fight against the Boers in the Boer War on 16 March 1900. The Times described the scene as follows, "The two London units of the Special Corps of Imperial Yeomen known as Paget's Horse left the metropolis this morning for Southampton to embark in the Tagus for the Cape, They were about 250 strong all told. The two companies paraded in Suffolk Street, Pall Mall, at seven o' clock, and marched, amid scenes of great enthusiasm, to Nine Elms station where they entrained. Hundreds of relatives and friends assembled at the station gates in the hope of seeing the last of the yeomen, and bitter disappointment was experienced when it was found that access to the station could not be obtained without passes. Mr. Paget the founder of the corps, and the members of the committee travelled to Southampton to witness the embarkation. The train left at nine o' clock, to the accompaniment of loud cheers from the persons within the station."
