Thanks Mike, much appreciated.

Sadly I'm limited to weak coffee as it gives me migraines, but I still love the smell and occasionally treat my self to a "decent" cup.

Regards
Brian

Hi Brian,
An interesting post, I have one to the unit named to 53 Tpr H Bates Stockenstroom D.M.C.

I think it is the inconsistencies with QSA naming and clasp entitlements that makes the collecting them so interesting and challenging.

Take the Christiana D.M.T. For instance, the roll quite clearly states ‘ District Mounted Rifles’ the medal in my possession is to D.M.T. To add to this the Christiana D.MR./D.M.T. we’re awarded the clasps for O.F.S., Trans, SA 01, SA 02 in most cases. This is the only local unit I have found so far that were awarded clasps. There may be others but I havn’t seen any evidence so far.

Cheers,
Jim

Hi Jim

Thanks for the info. Mike can add another to his growing list.
I'm sure Rory has one with clasps remember him mentioning it, but could be mistaken?
I wonder how many other naming anomalies there are regards the many D.M.T./ D.M.R. and Town Guards medals?
One also has to wonder why they never at least received a clasp for the region in which they served in i.e. Cape Colony or Natal.

You are spot on Brian - here is the link to my man angloboerwar.com/forum/5-medals-and-awar...rj-pringle-pow#66148

Normally if a chap served in one or more units other than the TG, his QSA would be issued to one of these and not the Town Guard or DMT - Pringle is thus a bit of an anomaly.

Rory

Thanks Rory for clarifying the medal to Pringle, so my ageing memory is not too bad :) although at time I seriously wonder about it!

Was that the medal you acquired from Bedford soon after moving to the EC?

No that's to De Bloe. I moved him on and then, in a fit of nostalgia, bought him back on City Coins
