We all know that most Boer War vets were proud to wear their medals - so much so that many "manufactured" a KSA to go along with their QSA even if they weren't entitled to one.

Enter then Mr S.L. Gamble - this gentleman earned his QSA with the 4th Remounts and then went on to serve as an Agent with the F.I.D., earning his two clasp KSA off their roll.

Strange thing though is that Gamble's QSA was returned to the mint on 4 May 1908. Did he continue to wear his KSA on it's own and why not follow up on the QSA to get it back?

Regards

Rory

Rory,

That is odd. Perhaps he was not aware he earned a QSA or did not apply for it?

Rory.....

Maybe he was not at the address that was on his discharge documents and the OR had no where to send his medal..... Therefore they could not track him down.... Also he may not have known that he could have applied for his medal after it was sent back in 1908.....
