The attached photos, of my great grandfather BJ van Greunen [Prisoner of War number 13806, from Rooikoppies district, Rustenburg, Hex River Commando] (and other Boers), taken during the Anglo Boer was, I assume after he was captured, has reference.

My question and focus concerns the lapel pin on his jacket.

Any suggestions on what it can be? A military medal or just something unknown?
