On the Great War (1914-1918) Forum, there is a reference to a Major S.H. Chapin (4DG); he was deprived of his DSO after dismissal by Court Martial in 1918 (apparently for bigamy). His WW1 trio were issued 3/1950 and were/are extant.

QSA (4) Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Relief of Ladysmith, Transvaal (318 S. Sjt: Maj: H. Henry. S. A. Lt Horse)

Hugh Henry was born in Scotland and travelled to South Africa to work as a miner. Joining the South African Light Horse, he was seriously wounded at Colenso with his discharge papers stating that his 'arms and equipment were taken by the Boers'. In this battle the Light Horse formed part of Dundonald's Mounted Column on the right of the British line. Henry later re-engaged with the South African Light Horse and was noted as 'previously described as a deserter'. Spink say this suggests 'that he was also taken prisoner at Colenso.'

The QSA roll says he deserted long after Colenso

SA01 clasp withheld (WO100/275p73).
