The H.M.S. Powerful watch of 156160 Petty Officer (1st Class) Alfred FINNIMORE (died, Ladysmith, 26/11/1899) was auctioned off during one of the Flog it! episodes by some clueless descendant for British Pounds 280,- The experts of that show didn't have much clue either as they implied that the Boers invested Ladysmith in an effort to take it back. So Neville, you can list this watch as a survivor, unless of course the buyer didn't have a clue either and decided to add value to the watch by erasing the engraving.

Hi Neville,

You mention the quote "Watches are to be sent to relatives of the deceased, and those who were not able to be present [at the 7th June presentation] will receive them hereafter". However, I cannot seem to find this recorded in any papers, do you happen to remember where this was referenced?

Thanks,
John
