Hello all,
I have been doing a few updates to my lists; I have now recorded 432 medals to members of Canadian units, and thought I would add some statistics of recorded extant medals by unit. I have a significant backlog of unrecorded data, as I am working through older auction catalogues c. 1890-1930, and will update this further as I add more sightings. I believe my data on extant Lord Strathcona's Horse medals is likely the most well-captured, as these medals have been an enduring subject of interest among collectors, with a series of articles on extant medals published, and a number of BMF members have been recording information about these medals and sharing data with me actively over time. This said, I am happy to hear of any medals to these units in forum members' collections or that have appeared for sale.
Royal Canadian Regiment - 120 medals seen/unit strength was 1123
Royal Canadian Dragoons - 35 medals seen/unit strength was 379
Royal Canadian Field Artillery - 51 medals seen/unit strength was 539
The Canadian Mounted Rifles - 23 medals seen/unit strength was 378
Lord Strathcona's Horse - 147 medals seen/unit strength was 596
2nd Canadian Mounted Rifles - 44 medals seen/unit strength was 925
10th Canadian Field Hospital - 5 medals seen/unit strength was 62
Canadian Postal Corps - 1 medal seen/unit strength was 5
Artificers - 1 medal seen/strength was 21
War Correspondents - 2 seen/total deployed was 6
Nurses - 3 seen/total deployed was 8
YMCA - 1 seen/total deployed was 2
Best wishes,
Jim
