Is anyone familiar with the Border Horse QSA roll? I have a medal to 434 Tpr RR Ollet Border Horse with the OFS and CC clasps. He is on the Border Horse roll where there is also a tick for Wepener but it is ticked for the whole page. He is also on the roll of the 2nd Brabant's Horse who were at Wepener, but he is only marked for CC on that roll.

The Border Horse roll is interesting as the tick is the same as that of the other clasps but there are then two lines through them all. Not sure if that means no, or something else.

I've checked the Kaplan Wepener roll but can't find him.

Any ideas?

Cheers
Ryan

Ryan,

No, I don't think he was at Wepener. The Border Horse were initially ticked for Wepener but this is because they were in the relieving force. The issue of Wepener to the Border Horse was later denied and none were issued (with one exception).

Richard Roper Ollett (2 ts on the nominal roll) served in 2nd Brabant's 14 December 1899 and was discharged in Dordrecht, 6 March 1900.

He would have known many of the defenders as he entered Wepener in the relieving force. I wonder how they greeted him?

Richard served in the Border Horse (2 ts in the nominal roll again) 17 March to 4 September 1900.

He appears to have been born in 1854 and died 14 June 1916 in Rustenburg.

Best wishes
David

Thanks David. I have since found the front of the roll after someone on FB pointed me there where it has a note that they didn’t get the clasp.

I see there is an RT Ollett who was wounded. Also Border Horse. There is no other Ollett on the medal roll, I wonder if it is him?

Yes, very probably.

A man of this name received CGHGSM (1) Transkei for service in George Burghers. If he was born in 1854, this could definitely be him.
