A very recent acquisition is that to Sapper Charles Cornelius - a man with 25 years of exemplary service, he was one of those en route to Mauritius in 1896 who were rerouted to the "troubles" in Matabeleland.

After serving there as one of not very many with the 43rd Coy. Royal Engineers, he went on to later serve with the 29th Coy. R.E. in the Cape Colony (they seem to have been with Methuen around the Stormberg area.)

Thanks to his record, he was awarded the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal to go with his other 2 gongs. Medals are in the UK so please accept my apologies for the photo's quality.

Regards

Rory

Very nice, indeed.

I make it around 47 BSACMs to the RE.
