David Brazier
Born in Cape Colony 1875. Trade: Brickmaker in Mafeking (recorded in the 1899 voters' roll as Brazier). Served with D Section, MTG (Siege Slip nominal roll). His father was Henry Richard Brazer (1832-1901), also a Mafeking defender His Mafeking medal sold in June 1972 John Brazer His Mafeking medal last sold in April 2021. Henry Richard Brazer Born in Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England, in 1832, son of David and Susan Brazer. Enlisted in the 31st (Huntingdonshire) Foot (2748 Private) in 1852 as Richard Brazer and Breaze. Served in the Crimean War including the operations at Sebastopol. Served in the 1st East Surrey Regiment, 1852-64. Discharged 1864. Carpenter in Victoria West c 1883. Carpenter at Market Street, Johannesburg c 1883-6. Brickmaker in Mafeking (recorded in the 1899 Voters' Roll as Brazier). Served with D Section, MTG (Siege Slip nominal roll). He was married to Dorothy Van Eeden. He died in Mafeking 13 March 1901 Dr David Biggins

Today the text for the Mafeking book was completed (as much as any such book can be completed). The book has 864 pages, 360 images and 503 footnotes. It has been considerably improved and expanded through the contributions of forum members for which I am very grateful.
403 medals to Mafeking defenders have so far been identified. Seeing forward to your book. Will it be available in South Africa? I got in my collection a J Burger Mafeking Townguard with Tvl and DoM clasps I have also 1317 P Laing Cape Police with DoM and OFS clasps. It was re-issued in the 1940s Chris |
