Hi Mike,

Went to good 'ol Ebay to find that this QSA has now been sold. I see that the original buy-it-now price was US$3500 and a best offer was accepted.

So what I'm reading on the rim of this decoration to Charles Richard John Spencer Churchill, appears to me that this is a personalised QSA showing that he is the 9th Duke of Marlborough, but not the regiment which he served in.

I have tried to look for the medal and award roll, but have not had any luck locating one. The only information on-line that I can locate on the Duke and his service in South Africa is the following -

'After the outbreak of the Second Boer War he was in January 1900 seconded for service as a Staff Captain in the Imperial Yeomanry serving in South Africa, and received the temporary rank of Captain. He arrived in Cape Town in March 1900, and left for Naauwpoort in Northern Cape Colony with the Oxford company of the Imperial Yeomanry. He was subsequently appointed Assistant Military Secretary to Lord Roberts, Commander-in-Chief of the British forces in South Africa, and was aide-de-camp to Lieutenant-General Ian Hamilton. He was mentioned in despatches and promoted to Major on 7 December 1901.'

Images thanks to Ebay.

Does anyone else out there find it odd that this medal has found its way out of Blenheim Palace?

Certainly not a medal I would expect to see on the market.

The naming looks fine to me too.

The naming looks fine but I would have expected an engraved medal?
