KLaw,

It is more likely that my data is incomplete.

There is a 6606 Pte T Simons on the roll for the 3rd Royal Lancaster Regiment (WO100/168p263). He earned clasps CC and OFS and died 16 June 1900. I cannot see him on the published casualty roll (which we know to be inaccurate).

Steve Watt's In Memoriam has 6607 Pte T Simms of the 3rd battalion as dying of disease 21 June 1901 at Sand River.

By the roll definitely has Simons but I could see how this could be mis-read:

Usually the papers for those who died were destroyed.

However, there are some papers for 6606 Thomas Simms. Born 1882 in Manchester.

There are available for a fee from FindMyPast or free at the National Archives, London.
