Hi Philip,
This is one of the challenges with collecting QSA's.
Clasps missing, out of order and incorrect clasps. As well as clasps placed on the medal by the recipient because he reckoned he was entitled.
I have a couple with dubious clasps but fortunately this was pointed out when I purchased them.
It becomes a challenge when the recipient has served in several units and is entitled to both battle and state clasps. That tests your sense of humor, trust me.
Cheers,
Jim

Hello Philip

I think his 2nd Battalion roll is correct. As Jim mentioned, soldiers sometimes added additional clasps due to what they believed they were entitled to, if not officially awarded by the regimental roll.  If you look closely at the medal rolls, some of his comrades in the same battalion were awarded Paardeberg and Driefontein. But,Pte Davies,  Done, Dorkin and Edwards were awarded the same as A Disley. I have checked several rolls and this 3 clasp entitlement is reoccurring.
I have a few QSA examples with battle clasps fitted correctly above the 1901 date clasp. Obviously added at a later date.
In my humble opinion I think the roll and papers are correct and the additional clasps have been added at a later date. However,  it is quite possible Pte Disley was responsible for the additions.
You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.
Best regards,
Dave
