Sorry for what may seem a daft question (stay with m, I've got plenty more)
In the Boer War if a soldier was awarded a Distinguished Conduct Medal did that award appear as such in the London Gazette (the same as for WW1) or was it announced as ... ' mentioned in Lord Roberts' Despatch?
Something is telling me I've never seen a Gazette entry for te Boer War stating specifically a DCM had been awarded.
Any information greatly appreciated.

Note:

He was mentioned in Lord Robert's despatch of 4th Sept 1901 as Sgt C. Simms, RA but listed under the Mounted Infantry section. Simms' DCM was published in the London Gazette of 27 Sept 1901 confirming that he served in and won the DCM in the 6th Btn Mounted Infantry.

You seem to have answered my query.
A friend has a QSA (Imperial Yeomanry) 1st WW pair (commissioned into the York and Lancs)
An original newspaper cutting suggested he was awarded a DCM for the Boer War - indeed the article reports a ceremony at which his and other DCMs are to be presented.
All he has been able to discover however is a Mention in Despatches which is gazetted as such and an entry in the book on honours and awards etc for the Boer War.
