This is an interesting one to a sought after unit - medals to Lumsden's Horse, a unit raised in India, are not often seen on the market. This one, to 200, Trooper Crosbie Charles Harvey, a man who was a Coffee Planter by profession, came my way courtesy of DNW's recent auction. This gentleman, rather enigmatically, was a commissioned Lieutenant in the Mid-Ulster Artillery at the same time. Researching him will prove challenging. He was also a member of the Peerage.

I have noticed that, according to the medal rolls, some LH chaps were awarded the Johannesburg clasp (possibly an earlier contingent?), whilst others got the 3 state clasps ala Harvey. Perhaps someone can shed some light on this aspect of the unit.

Hello Mike

I had seen the post a while ago - perhaps if David reads this, he can merge the posts.

Regards

Rory

Lumsden's Horse QSAs turn up very seldom these days. Some time ago, I did posts on two of their men in my current custody; many of LH were The Right Sort of Chap and one contingent only. Your man was a member of No.3 Section, B Company and did some time in convalescent hospital, Bloemfontein. Which is probably why he did not qualify for his "Johannesburg" clasp. One of the nice aspects of the Regimental History is that many of LH sat for portraits. Unfortunately, not Tpr. C.C.Harvey.
Some time ago, David put "The History of Lumsden's Horse" by Pearce in the Books Section of this site. Rory should have some pleasant time reading it.
Yes, it would be a good idea to have all posts for LH under the same heading. I will ask our host about doing that.
Regards
IL.
