Having lived for a period in Ladysmith I have developed a bit of a "thing" for the town and its people, not to mention the history of the place! Over time I have assembled quite a number of medals to residents and others who were either caught up in or were part of the Relief of Ladysmith. The medal below to Edward Alfred Taylor Bottomley is an interesting one because, unlike so many of the towns residents who served nowhere else besides in the Town Guard, Bottomley served in a number of units before and during the Boer War:

- 5th Volunteer Battalion, Cheshire Regiment
- 2nd Battalion, Rifle Brigade
- Natal Government Railways Rifle Association
- Natal Government Railways, Bridge Guard
- Cape Colony Cyclist Corps

Quite the lad! More about him anon.

Regards

Rory
