Today's arrival comes with so much ephemera that I am at a loss as to where to store it all. It's a special group in that never before have I seen a family so loving preserve one man's memory. The group is to Sgt. John Clarence Bailey who served with the SAMR until retirement in about 1924. He then moved back to England, his birthplace, where he perished in Devon in 1934.
Aside from the group came the following:
7 x photographs of him in at various stages of his career
1 x large group SAMR photo
1 x silver (EPNS) salver presented to him by colleagues on his retirement
1 x SA Passport
1 x original Sergeant's stripes
1 x Farrier's cloth badge
1 x Victoria family photo album.
1 x bag of buttons, CMR badges etc.
1 x Silver shooting spoon
2 x Testimonials from his pre- Boer War employees
A folder of original paperwork including discharge parchments etc.
Truly a magnificent array of memorabilia. I am going to be hard-pressed to do justice to this man's memory.
Regards
Rory
