Does anyway know if Arthur Hazlerigg's , Cape Police, medals are still in existence?
Arthur died of wounds on 13 May 19000 during the siege of Mafeking.
He was awarded Queens South Africa Medal and Clasp for the Defence of Mafeking, and Cape of Good Hope General Service Medal with Clasp for Bechuanaland. The Medal Roll for the Queens South Africa Medal records (4 September 1907) that Arthur’s medal and clasp was recovered and reissued to Col. F.A Yorke for transmission to his father Major-General Hazlerigg. It would appear the medals were sold by Arthur Robert HAZLERIGG sometime before hos death in 2012 and are probably in a private collection as their whereabouts are unknown.

Graham,

It has been a while since we saw his single QSA. My records are:

Sotheby May 1980 (part lot, sold with other family medals).
Spink June 1990 £850.
Liverpool Medals November 1990 £1,050

Thank you very much for the prompt reply.
Wonder what happened to his other medal?
I would imagine the other medals sold where those of Arthur's father Major-General Thomas Maynard Haslerigg, Royal Artillery. He had a fine collection.

I would like to use the medal information you sent me in an article I am writing about Arthur in The Journal for South African Military History.
Will this be ok? I will of course credit you.

David,
Which University are you at?

You stated ... It has been a while since we saw his single QSA.... can you enlarge on this? Does this mean that Arthur's medals have been spilt up?

I might write to Sotheby's to see if they hold a record of the sale on the chance a photograph was attached to other details.
