I am researching my great uncles, the Flynn brothers from Ballina, Co. Mayo. As their father they were all soldiers and fought around the world and finally in WW1, which they all survived. I have found references to 6360 1st Batt. Connaught Ranger Martin Flynn (see photo) and to 6833 1st Batt. Connaught Ranger Patrick Flynn. We believe that Thomas Flynn was also in South Africa (he had various numbers but in that period we believe 1985/3953 third Battalion Connaught Rangers). I cannot find any reference to him in medal rolls hence the uncertainty. did everyone who served get a medal or is there a different rationale? Ifound a reference to him as being wounded 14 Jul 1901 Zuurvlakte. thanks

Hi Massari
Was your Great Uncle, Thomas Flynn born in Kilmoremoy ?
What was his date of birth?
Also, the regimental numbers 1985 & 3953 are allocated to different named soldiers of the 1st battalion Connaught Rangers not to a T Flynn.

Massari,

The casualty roll shows Flynn, T, Corporal 4496 of the Connaught Rangers as being dangerously wounded at Zuurvlakte, 14 July 1901.

There are service papers for 4496 Flynn:

Dr David Biggins

For your records. The information pertains to a Thomas Flynn who served in the 3rd Battalion Connaught Rangers. However, he attested in 1903 and was discharged medically unfit in 1905. Also, he served in the Special reserve in WW1 but not overseas. Please note the regimental numbers. Could this be your ancestor?
