The first of my long awaited new arrivals to the Imperial Light Horse was delivered this morning. George Samuel Burt Andrews (sometimes hyphenated) was quite the lad. As an Engineer and Architect he was credited with the growth and planning of much of present-day Johannesburg. As has come to be expected from the men from the Witwatersrand who were hand-picked for the ILH, he was of a particularly good stamp and one of the foremost men of his time. Too late for the Elandslaagte battle, he had enlisted in time for the Relief of Mafeking - one of only about 100 men from his unit to be in on the action when Baden Powell and his merry men were "Mafekinged". There is quite a bit on him on the net so research is in the embryonic stage.

Nice medal Rory, I am fortunate to be the custodian of a RoM to the ILH.
A sought after clasp and not seen often to the ILH.

Jim
