Hi All,

can anyone tell me if Edward Henry Draper, regimental number 27 of the West Australian Mounted Infantry (2nd contingement) won the DCM ?

Mark - Abbott's 'Recipients of the Distinguished Conduct Medal 1855-1909' shows 9 West Australians in total were awarded the DCM in the ABW but there is no Draper of any unit shown in the list of recipients.

Edward Henry Draper of 2WAMI was Mentioned in Despatches by the CinC on 2/4/1901 - however there are no details. Stirling (The Colonials in South Africa) gives some details of 2WAMI in Cape Colony in 1901. Your man earned both the QSA and KSA and the OZ-Boer database shows that he originally came from England and had served in the Matabeleland Mounted Police. The Colin R. Owen roll for the BSACo medal shows he was entitled to their 1896 medal as a Sapper with the Engineer Corp.
