Welcome to the forum, Lucoenne.

There are a few people of that name. Do you have his date of birth or death?

Kind regards
David

Hi David

I tried to get some more info, what I could find was that he was born in a Town in the Orange Free State called Irene on 3 October (no year). He lived till about 90's (8)?
He was part of both Anglo Boer wars.

His full name was Cornelius Johannes Human. He also took part in WW1.

He was married to Sharifa Johaar (met in Cape Town) and settled eventually in Port Elizabeth.

I will try and find out more. But that is all I have for now.
This was all sparked by a my daughter history assignment from school. So she will be talking about her Great Great Grandfather who took part in the war.
All the information we only found out yesterday thank to the QSA my farther had.

Best Regards
Lucienne

Hi Lucienne,

I think this is your G Grandfather? Born in the OVS (Smithfield) on the 3rd October 1871 and moved to Port Elizabeth.

Sturgy

Hi Sturgy

That looks like a definite outcome. His place of death corresponds to where my Grand farther was born.
I also found that Irene was not a town but one of the camps in the war. www2.lib.uct.ac.za/mss/bccd/Person/78035...nes_Cornelius_Human/
It appears possibly that he stayed at the camp for a year with his farther Johannes Cornelius Human, they were both discharged in 1902. That would of made Cornelius 24 in 1902 if the records are correct which would put his date of birth at 1877. So this may be due to an incorrect entry or its the wrong Cornelius.

But the Certificate you sent is definitely correct.
Many thanks
Lucienne

An observation : if Cornelius was in the PE Town Guard (on the 'Anglo' side), it seems very unlikely that he would also have been with his father in a Kimberley concentration camp for Boer civilians in 1901-02.

The ages also don't agree : the Cornelius in the death notice was born in 1871, whereas the one in the camp record appears to have been born in 1877.

It looks like two different people with the same forenames -- not uncommon in families which follow the tradition of naming children after parents and grandparents.

Arthur
