Today's arrival is one I have been waiting on for a while now. Included in the very comprehensive file of research that accompanied the group is an invoice from Spink, dated 25 April 1983 in an amount of £420. This tells me that, even back then, the group was highly prized.
The medals are to Henry Desmond (sometimes Clement) Hannay and are as follows:-
- Queens South Africa medal clasps Relief of Mafeking, Orange Free State and Transvaal to Lieut. H.D. Hannay, B.S.A. Police
- Kings South Africa medal clasps South Africa 1901/02 to Lt. H.D. Hannay, B.S.A. Police
- 1914/15 Star to Capt. H.D. Hannay, N. Staff. R
- British War Medal to Capt. H.D. Hannay
- Victory Medal to Capt. H.D. Hannay (with M.I.D. Oakleaf)
- Defence Medal 1939/45 (unnamed as issued)
Hannay was
Wounded in Action six miles from Mafeking on 30 March 1900 whilst with Colonel Plumer in the Relief operations.
