The Anglo Boer War's "Rorke's Drift"? - Fort Itala, 26 September 1901

Does anyone know how many from the Royal Lancs perished there?

A recent trip to London to meet with a friend from Down Under yielded this poignant QSA to 4578 Pte. Herbert Saunders of the Royal Lancs. who was Killed in Action at Fort Itala - "J. Saunders" on the medal - an erroneous but common mistake.

Hi Rory,

Does this help? It's from the SAFF Casualty Roll (Hard Copy):

Speak my name so that I may live again

By chance I was paging though the "Supplement to With the Flag to Pretoria" book ...as one does...and by co-incidence was reading up on the Defence of Fort Itala and saw this photo when your post came through, which I'm sure you seen before but I thought it was neat:

Speak my name so that I may live again
