My Great Grandfather saw service with the George Town Guard. His name is recorded on WO100/281 under Regimental Number 110. I seek confirmation that this is indeed a Queens South Africa Medal without Clasp entitlement. I seek confirmation before purchasing a Replica for display in a family tree arrangement.

According to page 87 of roll WO100/281, 110 Pte A.A. Fotheringham of the George Town Guard received a no clasp QSA medal for his service during the ABW. The roll was signed by a Capt. ????? at George on 20/2/1902. According to the roll heading, 110 such QSAs were approved - though there are quite a few more names on the roll. Perhaps they had qualified for a medal elsewhere. I did not follow that aspect up.

There are no notes against his name on the roll to suggest any other service in the Boer War so, add IL suggests, a no clasp QSA is his most likely entitlement.

You do sometimes see medals to the George Town Guard for sale so another option is to look for one to a person who may have known your ggf.
