Think Kimberley think Defence of Kimberley - not so in this instance!

A group which arrived recently is this Coronation ensemble to a veteran member of the Kimberley Regiment - William Thomas Devonshire started out his military career with the Middlesex Regiment but, having moved to South Africa, he joined the Kimberley Regiment - fighting in the Bechuanaland campaign (medal and clasp), and the Anglo Boer War (medals and clasps). He was one of three Sergeants who were overseas at the outbreak of the war - rushing back to Kimberley, he was too late to take part in the Defence but joined in all the later actions the regiment fought in. He was one of the ten members of the Regiment selected to attend the coronation of Edward VII in 1902. He died of illness in WWI and his medals were never claimed making this his full complement.
