From New South Wales, A Battery Royal Australian Artillery consisted of 7 officers and 213 men. It arrived in South Africa between February and April 1900 and departed in August 1901.

Only 43 medals impressed Rl.Aust.Arty, all others NSW Art.

William James Gunning, blacksmith, born 13May1878 in Sydney, NSW; Enl. as single and a blacksmith with NOK father at Redfern, NSW; Emb.15Mar1901 as a draft for A Bty R Aust Arty; various ops in Transvaal and Orange Free State; RTA 12Aug1901 and Disemb.15Sep1901 at Sydney, NSW.
