SAGS (1) 1877-8 (Major, L. J. Rolleston, Diamond Fds. Horse) minor official correction to two letters of unit

Diamond Fields Horse. 1876 to 1902. Originally known as the_Dutoitspan Hussars. As D.F.H., strength 291, it served under Captam (later Sir Charles) Warren in the Ninth Kaffir and Northern Border Wars wearing corduroy kit. A contingent of 101
under Captain Stewart served against Sekukuni in 1878. In 1886 wore blue with a double white stripe to overalls and a white helmet and pouch belt and carried the sword. Strength four squadrons and a battery of 7-prs. R.M.L., which became the Diamond Fields Artillery. In 1890 the strength was 406; served in the Langberg Campaign of 1897, strength 215 all ranks m khaki; and in the S.A. War under Major T. H. Rodgers, Strength six and 226. It was merged with the Kimberley Regiment in 1899, but served as a mounted unit to the close of hostilities when amalgamation took place.

The SAGS to Major Rolleston sold for a hammer price of GBP 3,200. Totals (VAT UK only): GBP 4,122. R89,300. Au$8,020. Can$7,300. US$5,200.
