Good Morning Everyone......

I am looking into a D.C.M., Edward VII, named to 6146 Cpl. J. (John) Roberts, 1st Conn. Rangers
But everything I have looked into so far shows nothing......

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated......

Hello MIke,

There are 12 DCMs to the Connaught Rangers listed on this page ( www.angloboerwar.com/medals-and-awards/british/241-dcm ) but not one to this man.

His service papers are available but nothing listed beyond his service in South Africa.

Best wishes
David

Mike, are you aware he also served in the SAC. I have found him on 4 QSA SAC medal rolls - two regarding service in C Division as C1185 and two regarding service in E Division as E3690. He transferred from C to E Division 0n 08/12/1901. The SAC KSA medal roll (see below) indicates he served in the SAC from 20/04/1901 to end of war. Thus if he was awarded an Edwardian DCM it would be more likely to be as a result of his SAC service. He is listed third below:

Regards, David.

Mike
Looking through Abbott's "Recipients of the Distinguished Conduct Medal, 1855 - 1909", I can see no entry for any J. Roberts of any unit (SAC or otherwise). Are there any details in case he changed his name or similar?
Regards
IL.

IL, David and David.......

Thank you very much for your information.......

I suspected your answers but just wanted to confirm just in case I had missed something.......

Interesting thing is that his QSA/KSA are named in WW1 style and size, must have lost his original medals.......

One thing that drew him to me was he was also in the 10th Battalion C.E.F., during WW1 as a Company Sergeant Major, which became the Calgary Highlanders a home town regiment......
