Good day. I see that applications can still be made for the ABW Medal. Where and how can this be done? My Grandfather is not listed in the roll, and he should be, as were his brothers and half-brothers.
He was Sarel Cornelis de Bruin of the Kroonstad Commando (subsection? Ondervalschrivier ?) and he may have been a Veldkornet at some stage. He was interned at Diyatalawa, Ceylon, after capture.

I once read an article about the ABO by Henk Loots and my memory is that the last ABO was issued in the 1950's or 1960's. There are no survivors now to testify about the service of individual members of the Boer forces.

I thought that applications for the ABO were closed in the 1970s when the last one was issued. As I understand it, it is no longer possible to apply for the medal.
