Hi Frank,
thank you very much for the photographs.
I have now compared them with mine and the news is not good.!
Would it be possible to send me a photograph of an original Wittebergen clasp too, so I can compare that with mine.

Many thanks
Stuart

Hello Stuart,
I'm having problems taking half decent photos as it is really dark here today, the camera is at its best in auto mode, but the flash makes photographing clasps pointless, if you cick on recent topics at the top of this page, scroll down and click on Brabants Horse, you will find a photo of a Wittebergen on the first page.
Regards Frank.

David,
Superb, I had not seen that page before, could have saved myself some time, instead of messing around with the camera!
Regards Frank

I hope that no-one will object if I use this thread to raise another puzzle involving the Commander in Chief's Bodyguard.

I have QSA/KSA pair as follows:
QSA (TH, RoL, Tvl, LN)- 1021 Pte W Buchan, Imperial Light Infantry.
KSA (SA 1901, SA 1902) - No number Tpr W Buchan, CinC's Bodyguard.

I have copies of both rolls confirming the medals. However, what has puzzled me is how a KSA could be awarded off the roll of a regiment that no longer existed in 1902? Also, why did Buchan not have a service number for the CinC's Bodyguard?

Brett

Hello Brett,
Buchan appears to have been discharged from the C in C Bodyguard on the 8th of January 1902 but according to the "Return of Corps of the SAMIF" in WO108 at Kew, this Corps was disbanded in Pretoria September 1901 and he does not have a number as you point out.
He should not even have a KSA, but he has and it was issued officially, but why?
If you find the answers, please do let me know!
Regards as always, very confused!
Frank
Very nice QSA and badge too!
