I have 2 medals to this Regiment / Corps purchased 10 years apart. Having looked on this site, I am worried about the clasps on the 6 clasp medal as the top three are in the wrong order. Is it possible that clasps were attached in the wrong order or should I be worried about the genuineness of the clasps awarded.?

25493 Trooper William Kitchen (appears as Kitcher on this site.?!)

The clasps from bottom to top are : CC, OFS, Tr, South Africa 1901, Witt and Wepener.

Can anyone give me some advice on the clasps and indeed the surname.?

Thanks.

Stu,

That order of clasps is a little worrying. How are the clasps attached after the Tr clasp?

Looking at the roll, William Kitcher (I'm pretty sure it is not Kitchen) is listed for the clasps CC OFS & Tr on the CinC BG roll (WO100/243p45). There is no mention of previous service that would earn him Witt or Wepener.

I am currently researching Wepener for my next book and have not so far identified this man as a recipient of that clasp.

From the nominal roll on this site, he served in the CinC BG from 13 Dec 00 to 12 Jul 01. Again no prior or subsequent service is listed.

Based on this evidence, I would think he was not entitled to the last 3 clasps on his medal.

Can you upload a picture of the medal to see if copy clasps have been used?

Regards
David

Gentlemen,
Just had a look at the published Wepener Roll and he is certainly not on that, nor is anyone of that name as far as I can see.
Agree with David, all is not well here!
What do the rivets on the clasps look like?

Thank you for the reply. The clasps are rivetted, but the last two are thinner on the name face. The SA01 clasp is the same thickness as the previous three. I will attempt to upload a picture. Do you want any specific features shown.? Surname is clearly Kitchen and does not look like any correction to the spelling has been made.

Hello,
Would be good to see both the rivets and the front face of the clasps!

Stu,
I'm having problems getting good photos today because of the lack of light but here is an original Wepener clasp

Regarding rivets, the first four from left are what one would expect ie they are official, the fifth and last on the right is not.
Hope this may be of some help to you.
Regards Frank
