M&E say Oswald Wentworth de Chair was born on 28 February 1870 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the son of Dudley Raikes de Chair. He served with the Border Horse and is confirmed on the medal roll, and later died in Mortlake in 1947.

He was the brother of Admiral Dudley Rawson Stafford de Chair KCB, KCMG, MVO, and may have seen Great War service as Captain with the Rifle Brigade (this not confirmed), or possibly with the RNVR (armoured cars).
