I hav a QSA where the only visible inscription is the number 6482 followed by Pte. The rest is impossible to see. Can the owner be identified from this information please?

Mike,

That might be tricky. Looking on Ancestry there are some 36 men with that regimental number.

William Ayton 2nd Battalion The Queen's
A Betteley 1st Battalion Yorkshire
C F Bewes 27th Company 7th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry
W Bran 1st Suffolk
G Brennan 2nd Battalion Grenadier Guards
W Bunn Volunteer Company 1st Suffolk
J Canavan 2nd Royal Dublin Fusiliers
J Cassidy 1st Battalion Highland Light Infantry
F Cranage 1st West Riding Regiment
J Dixon 15th Wn Division Royal Garrison Artillery
W Drummond 1st Battalion The Gordon Highlanders
R Edwards 3rd Battalion The South Wales Borderers
A Elswood Royal Warwickshire
R Furst 2nd Battalion Royal Fusiliers
J Graham 1st Battalion The Connaugh Rangers
W Hart 2nd Battalion Gordon Highlanders
E Hogg 1st Battalion King's Own Scottish Borderers
F Hooton 1st Battalion The Sherwood Foresters Notts & Derbyshire
A Jenkins 1st Battalion Rifle Brigade
W Jones 1st Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers
S Kershaw 2nd Battalion Scottish Rifles
C Lister 22nd Battalion Mounted Infantry
E Lister 2nd Royal Scots Fusiliers
F Lowe 1st Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers
B Matthews 2nd East Yorkshire
J Mcalpine 1st Argyll & Southerland Highlanders
E Mcdowell 1st Royal Irish Fusiliers
A Mckay 2nd Battalion The Black Watch
J Obrien 1st Battalion The Royal Irish
J O'brien 1st Battalion The Royal Irish Regiment
S Parsons 1st Oxfordshire Light Infantry
J Stannistreet 2nd Battalion Cheshire Regiment
J Upton 2nd Battalion Kings Shropshire Light Infantry
F Walton 4th Battalion Durham Light Infaltry
J Wheeler 2nd East Surrey Regiment
W Woods Loyal North Lancashire Regiment

I have not checked each for rank and not all will be privates.

Another avenue would be to look at the clasps on the medal and to see if these match with the clasps issued to the unit.

Best wishes
David

Thank you David.
The most likely recipient was Pte J Upton. 2 Bat, The King's (Shropshire Light Infantry) This firts the spacing round the medal and L.I. is just about visible. He was accidentally wounded at Carolina (Mpumalanga)
Any relations still searching for him?
