I have acquired a 4 bar QSA to 8732 J (James) Smith of the 18th Company, 6th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry.

The clasps are Cape Colony, Wittebergen, Transvaal and SA 1901.

I seem to recall that these papers are not on-line but are at the NA. Am I correct in that assumption?

Additionally although I don't have many QSA to the I.Y. I was under the impression that most had a combination of state and date bars. Smith's has the Wittebergen clasp. Is this a rarity?

Regards

Good Afternoon Rory,
The attestation and discharge papers for the Imperial Yeomanry are in WO128 at the TNA Kew, it is not on line, in addition, there are, from memory, some registers and casualty returns in WO129 and I think an officers nominal roll too, all in bound volumes.

Rory,
I had a brief look at the roll in WO100/122 for your man and found him on page 211, it was signed on the 26th of June 1901 in Glasgow by Captain Andrew Coats, there is, in the remarks column, a note, "Trans (transferred) to base depot for employ (employment) on gov't (government) farms, since granted furlough to England"
In addition, there are 124 men on the roll of 18th Company, 93 of whom received the clasp for Wittebergen.

Many thanks Frank and Mike

Smith is on 2 rolls which, combined, confirm his entitlement.
