Hello Ian,
I would be happy to have the medallion itself in my collection, but, it would certainly be better if you had it reconstituted as a medal, any Thorneycroft's MI is worth having in my opinion, that one, in particular is very nice indeed.
Kind regards Frank

If you do end up having it done, please have it done well for the memory of Forbes sake, even if it means having to send it here!

Fear Not Dear Frank!
The whole reconstitution will be arranged professionally (David suggested a source). All IL has to do is to find a Transvaal clasp and a suspension. Thus far, the Forbes TMI "medallion" has provided a couple of surprises and - as you say - the memory of the man deserves the best job.
Best regards
IL.

Another offer for your enjoyment.

Group of Five Medals including the Military Medal (George V) to Aylwin Dufaur Clark.

Military Medal (Geo V) – 629 Gnr A.D Clark 74 Sge By S.A Hy Art
QSA – No Bar, 844 Pte A.D Clark – P.Elizabeth T.G
British War Medal – Gnr A.D Clark – S.A.H.A
Victory Medal (Bil) – Gnr A.D Clark – S.A.H.A
Special Constabulary Long Service Medal – (Geo VI) – Aylwin D Clark

MM LG 23 March 1917

Aylwin Dufaur Clark was educated at King’s School, Canterbury (1896-1900). He then came to South Africa and served in the Port Elizabeth Town Guard during the Boer War.

He stated his occupation as “Feather Merchant” when he attested in the SA Heavy Artillery in August 1915. He was posted to 74 Siege Battery in October 1915. They arrived in France on 30 April 1916.

Clark received notification in the field on 11 Feb 1917 that he had been awarded the Military Medal. The unpublished Battery History (two copies enclosed) mentions that Clark received the MM for his work as signaller on lines of communication. His service card records various periods in 1917 when he received “2/- E.D pay as visual signaller” with a final note “Signaller 2/- per day ceases 31-3-19”.

Hello Ryan

Lovely group on so many levels: QSA & MM, 3 monarchs, span of service ABW -> WWII, "feather merchant"" - ostrich feathers? (tickles me!), and a "visual signaller" earning "ED" (extra danger?) pay, does that mean the Germans could see him too?

Well done.
