I was looking today at the QSA to Pte E M Hartigan, Kaffrarian Rifles on ebay. It has been listed for nearly 3 years now and at £770 it is unlikely to move any time soon.

Pte Hartigan received QSA (4) CC Wep Tr Witt. He was discharged 5 August 1900.

It is a more pleasing clasp to buy as a pair of medals, certainly for that sort of money, I would want a KSA issued from the roll of a good regiment such as Kitchener's Fighting Scouts.

My first record for Hartigan's QSA on the market is from 1977 with an auctioneer/dealer called Cocksedge when it sold for GBP168, which according to www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/bills/articl...ey-changed-1900.html is worth £ 1,190.29 in today's money.

The moral of the story - don't invest in medals!

£168 was certainly a very considerable sum of money back then, was there commission to be added too?
