There is a QSA currently for sale on a popular auction site. The QSA with clasps TR and OFS on which the name has been erased. However the number and unit remain:

1781 ILH

Looking on Ancestry, the QSA was awarded to Pte T W Lognon of the 2nd ILH. He was additionally awarded the SA02 clasp.

What a shame the name is partially erased by a good thing that more of the inscription was not removed?

Hi David.....

This has happened to me where a WW1 trio was offered to me for sale the name had been removed leaving the number and unit..... When asked why it had been removed the family was under the impression that it was illegal to sell the medals so they had taken the family name off the medals.....

I have a QSA to the Black watch with the name removed and a Defence of Mafeking with 80% removed but was able to figure out who they were......

Mike,

That is an interesting explanation for why just the name might be removed. I was having difficulty seeing why the recipient would only erase the name and leave other identifying items. If the family were responsible for the erasure, they might not think to remove him number.

Kind regards
David

From BoB comes this partially erased QSA. The seller suggests the name has disappeared due to 'wear and tear'.

In the picture 'Cpl' remains and possibly other information not pictured?

The clasp combination is unusual and would suggest ILI, Royal Irish Fusiliers or Rifle Brigade who all earned this combination.

www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/407816030/ANGLO_...S_KSA_2X_CLASPS.html

Starting price is R6,900 or £375.

Quite frankly, I think the seller should consider adding the word erased rather than using the phrase, wear and tear.
