QSA (4) Elandslaagte, Defence of Ladysmith, Orange Free State, Transvaal (4473. Pte. C. Holland. 5/Lcrs.) engraved;

Cornelius J. Holland was born in Liverpool in 1876 and attested there for the 5th (Royal Irish) Lancers on 8 October 1894, having previously served with the Lancashire Artillery Militia. He served with the 5th Lancers in India from 11 November 1896 to 4 March 1898, and then in South Africa from 5 March 1898 to 19 September 1902. He transferred to the Reserve on 27 December 1902, and was discharged on 7 October 1906, after 12 years’ service.

The two Elandslaagte QSAs from yesterday's auction.

Pte C Holland, 5th Lancers, sold for a hammer price of £460.

Pte H Tucker, Devon Regiment, sold for a hammer price of £700.

QSA (1) Elandslaagte (4734 Pte. A. George, Gordon Highrs:)

Alexander George was wounded in action with the 2nd Battalion, Gordon Highlanders during the Battle of Elandslaagte on 21 October 1899. He was afterwards evacuated to England.

QSA verified on WO100/203p366.

IGS references are WO100/89p151 and WO100/78p270.
