[ KSA (2) ]

Entitled to the OFS clasp (WO100/118p294).

M&E note that a comparable medal named to the same recipient (but with a different naming style,) was previously sold by Spink (Auction 22003, lot 234), in a pair with a Kimberley Star, and with an additional ‘Orange Free State’ clasp. See the pair here.

QSA (5) Talana, Defence of Ladysmith, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901 (83072 Sgt. F.W. Gough, 13/Bty: R.F.A).

Clasps verified on WO100/140p172 and WO100/140p188.

Frederick William Gough. Enlisted in the ASH 30 July 1890. Transferred to the RA 19 January 1891. Promoted Sergeant, 2 April 1899. Imprisoned for 88 days from 14 April 1900 and reduced to the rank of Driver when he returned to duty, 11 July 1900.

Served in South Africa 15 May 1897 to 6 October 1901.

The QSA roll lists his rank as Driver (WO100/140p172). The rank on the supplementary roll for SA01 is also Driver (WO100/140p188).

I wonder if 'Sgt' is a later correction by the recipient?
