Firstly - welcome, Brian to the Forum :)

Secondly I am hoping to enlist members support with my query.

One of my recent purchases from the recent City Coins auction was a family set of groups. One of these was a 2 clasp QSA to the above chap.

Loosing no time I made contact with family of these recipients and was told that Mangan, a Train Driver, was reputed to have taken the first train out of Bloemfontein after Kitchener entered the city and also had the distinction of driving the train that took Kruger (it wasn't mentioned where!!)

I know this is frightfully vague but is there any way of confirming the stories? Families, over the course of generations, conjure up all sorts of urban legends but is there any substance to their claims here I wonder?

Regards

Rory

I will get my Dad to look through his books, hopefully he can come up trumps.

Not been too successful in the past looking up these chaps, very little detail regards individuals unfortunately. Most have general interest stories.

Regards

Brian
